Note: I am not affiliated with Costco in any way. I only write these reviews to share my experiences I am only a fan of the company.

So, I went to the Costco store today with my wife, and she wanted to know which pineapple was the best one because she love them so much. I was able to help her pick the right pineapple because I have the experience, you know?  My grandma used to grow pineapples in our backyard. She taught me which were the best pineapples.

In this blog post, I will share some of what I shared with her to help her pick the right and best pineapples that Costco could offer.

"Sometimes it's best to take a bit more time than usual for you to look at the fruit you are interested in because almost always, you will find some fruits that are fresher than the others if you take 2-5 Minutes looking. You can always start by looking for the fresh and new pineapples. Don't think it's crazy to ask whoever is working in produce to look in the back for fresh fruits for you, in case the ones on display are not as fresh. Looking for fresh fruits is always the best way to start.

Answer: When looking for the perfect pineapple, there are only three things to look for:

  1. Look at the side of the pineapple to see if it has a yellow spot. The more yellow the spot, the better the pineapple.

  2. When you hold it by the leaves, one of them should be loose.

  3. How does it smell? Depending on the scent, you can tell a lot about most fruit. If your nose is really good, make sure to use it; you will be able to tell whether the fruit is ripe or rotten, remember to pick based on what you are looking for.

In some cases, the leaf should come out without force, but be careful not to remove too many leaves at Costco. The pineapple needs its leaves to be sold to another customer. Lol.

This method never fails. It was taught to me by my grandma, and let me tell you, no one knows better than grandma.

If you want it to last longer, make sure it is mostly green but has a yellow spot somewhere on the side. The more yellow it is, the riper it is. The yellow spot I'm talking about lets you know that it will ripen nicely. If you don't want to eat the pineapple right away, don't pick a completely yellow fruit. But remember, that yellow spot on the side is very important; otherwise, you could end up with a pineapple that will not ripen correctly.

The Perfect Way to Cut Your Pineapple

Way to Cut Your Pineapple

I thought that I should also let you know how to best cut your pineapple to get the most out of it.

  1. Pick a very sharp knife and place the fruit on the counter or table. You should Hold it with your left hand if you are right-handed and with your right hand if you are left-handed.

  2. Push the knife through the pineapple from the top to the bottom end until it is cut. In most cases, the piece you are trying to cut off will come away from the pineapple.

  3. Cut off four sides as if you are trying to make a square out of the middle part.

  4. If there are any good parts that came off with the skin, you can cut them out separately.

Here are three things you can do with the skin:

Three things you can do with the skin

  1. Make Juice: Put the skin in a bowl of water and leave it out for 1 day or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, depending on how fast you will use it to make the juice.

  2. Use for Fragrance: You can use the skin to make your house smell good by leaving it in a location where you want the scent. Be careful, as it can attract flies. To prevent this, you should protect the pineapple skin from flies if you are leaving  it out.

  3. Refrigerator Freshener: Organize it well and place it at the bottom of your refrigerator. The pineapple skin will make your refrigerator smell pleasant.

My wife loves the smell of pineapples. She would leave them on the dining room table for one to two weeks before cutting them. Not only that, she wants them to last the entire time without getting rotten.

She also uses the skin to make juice; nothing goes to waste with this fruit, she loves it. It is important to pick a good and fresh one.

Depending on where you live, fruits can be very expensive. So, it is very smart to take your time to pick the best one. Even if you don't have much time, try your best to go through them to make sure you pick the freshest one. Also, the produce employees will try to hide the good and fresh fruit at the bottom to ensure the old ones are sold first. It's your job to look below the pile to find the best fruit Costco or whatever store has to offer. You really don't want to eat expensive and funky fruits all the time.
